The Lost Secret Origins Story

This is the introduction written for the Interlac feature. "Jerry" must be Gerard Jones. I do not know who wrote the introcuction itself.

Introduction

Now we come to the part of this zine that most of you have been waiting for — that is, the party you would have been waiting for if you knew it was coming. Jerry has asked me to run something through Interlac which otherwise would not see the light of day, and I think that would have been a shame. What follows on the next fourteen pages is a story that was written and drawn for the Secret Origins mag, revealing for the first time anywhere, the origin of the Legion Clubhouse. You know, the dopey upside-down rocket. That this tale had never been told before was a surprise to me — it seems like a natural . According to Jerry, Mark Waid courageously put it through channels, knowing it might cause trouble with the continuity police. A new page was even substituted in order to reconcile it (half-heartedly) with Byrne continuity, but it wasn't enough. The Superman editor got the story killed. Jerry has since written a new origin with a completely different premise to be drawn by Curt Swan and to appear in Secret Origins #46. This then will be the only appearance of this version. (I got the story through the continuity checkpoint on Interstate 5 by collating it into an old issue of F.O.O.M.) Story is by Gerard Jones, art by Kurt Schaffenberger and Ty Templeton. The substituted page (11A) appears in an unlettered, pencils-only form with the corresponding script on the facing page. Enjoy culture mavens.
