+ History

NOTE: This entry mostly covers Starfire's direct involvement with the Outsiders. I refer your to the excellent Titans Tower for a more detailed biography.

Princess Koriand'r hails from the star system of Vega, on the planet Tamaran. She was second-born, but because her older sister, Komand'r lacked the ability to fly, Koriand'r was set to inherit the throne. This engendered a bloody hatred in Komand'r. After a trip to the world of Okaara, the sisters were kidnapped by members of the tyrannical ruling Citadel and handed over to the Psions, a race of sadistic scientists. The Psions knew that Tamaraneans were able to channel solar energy into the power of flight, and so they decided to test the limits of this ability. Koriand'r and Komand'r were flooded with energy and were near death. Just then, the Psions' ship was attacked and Koriand'r was freed, discovering that she could emit powerful bolts from her hands. Despite her hatred for her sister, freed Komand'r as well. However, Komand'r had been shackled longer and had absorbed more energy. Thus, she was more powerful; she overcame Koriand'r. Komand'r ultimately allied herself with the Citadel and sold Koriand'r into slavery. (Tales of the Teen Titans #2)

After years in slavery, Koriand'r found an opportunity to escape and took a spaceship to Earth. When she arrived, she met the newly-forming New Teen Titans. (New Teen Titans v.1 #1) She quickly began a romance with Dick (Robin) Grayson, which lasted for years, but ended badly. On their wedding day, Starfire was overtaken by their former teammate, Raven, who had gone mad. (??) After she was freed from Raven's influences, Starfire did not return to the Titans and returned to Tamaran, which was eventually destroyed. Before this, she had reconciled with her sister (also known as Blackfire) and admitted that Komand'r was a strong leader for the Tamaranean people. Presumably, there is now little left of the Tamaranean race. Upon their world's destruction (New Titans #128), they relocated to an uninhabited world which was also destroyed by the Sun Eater (Final Night Preview). What remained of her people then moved to the Vegan world of Karna, which was destroyed by Imperiex. (Superman: Our Worlds at War Secret Files #1)

Once again, she made her home on Earth and has been with the Titans off and on since then. Starfire became a member of the Outsiders at the urging of Jade. The team had begun to fracture and Jade usurped its leadership from Nightwing. She felt that Nightwing had becomed too detached from the team in the wake of Donna (Troia) Troy's death and needed to reconnect personally to the members. In bringing Starfire to the team, Jade hopes that Nightwing may (Outsiders v.3 #16)

+ Powers

Starfire can absorb and process various energies and redirect them with kinetic force. This includes the ability to absorb knowledge such as language.

Koriand'r's body primarily processes solar energy. She withholds the full force of her power, but if needed, she can unleash the power of a sun.
